The BMS is a premier educational and research organization founded in 1972. Its primary goal is to promote mathematical sciences, support research, and popularize mathematics across Bangladesh.
The central office of the society is located at the University of Dhaka. However, the society may establish regional branches across the country with the approval of the Executive Council.
Institutions can become members by paying a one-time fee of at least 15,000 BDT.
The society manages one primary research journal and two regular periodicals:
GANIT (Journal of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society): An annual, peer-reviewed English research journal focused on original work in pure and applied mathematics.
Ganit Parikkroma: A Bengali periodical that acts as the society’s "spokesman," bridging the gap between professional mathematicians and the general public.
The Bulletin: A half-yearly publication that provides updates on society activities, community news, and short mathematical notes.
Yes. While the society encourages membership, any individual—local or foreign may submit original research papers or expository articles for consideration. All submissions undergo a rigorous peer-review process by the Editorial Board.
NUMO is one of the society's flagship events, organized in collaboration with the A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation. It is designed to identify and nurture mathematical talent among university-level students across Bangladesh.
Structure: The competition is held in two stages: Regional Rounds (covering eight regions like Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Chattogram, Rajshahi, etc.) and a Final National Round.
Eligibility: Open to undergraduate students from any recognized university or college in Bangladesh.
Awards: Top performers receive certificates, medals, and cash prizes, with the champion earning significant recognition within the national academic community.
Yes. The society regularly organizes both National and International Mathematics Conferences.
Frequency: These are typically held biennially or annually, often hosted by major institutions like the University of Dhaka or BUET.
Scope: These conferences cover a wide range of topics, including Fluid Dynamics, Operations Research, Mathematical Physics, and Data Science.
Participation: They provide a vital forum for plenary sessions, paper presentations, and poster sessions where researchers, educators, and students can exchange ideas.
Important dates, registration forms, and syllabus details for NUMO and academic conferences are posted on the official BMS website and circulated to the Mathematics departments of universities nationwide.
