The National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad (NUMO) is the flagship annual competition organized by the Bangladesh Mathematical Society. Designed to look beyond standard university curricula, NUMO challenges students to apply pure logic, creativity, and advanced problem-solving skills. Whether you are aiming for a career in academia, engineering, or data science, this platform celebrates mathematical excellence and connects you with the brightest minds across the nation.
Academic Status: Open to students currently completing their first, second, third, or fourth year of university undergraduate education.
Age Limit: The maximum age for participants is 23 years at the time of the competition (though rare exceptions can be made), with no minimum age limit.
Progression to Nationals: Only the TOP 10 scoring students from each Regional Olympiad will advance to the Final Round. To encourage diversity in STEM, this top 10 must include at least 2 female contestants.
Language: The working language for the competition is English.
Algebra: Real & Complex Number Systems, polynomials, summation of series, inequalities, and DeMoivre's theorem. Linear Algebra (Matrices, Basis, Linear transformations, Eigensystems), Groups, Rings, and Fields.
Analysis (Real & Complex): Infinite Series, Convergence, Complex Integration, Bilinear transformations, Single and Multivariable Calculus, Vector Calculus (Theorems of Green, Gauss, Stokes), and Modelling with first/second-order differential equations.
Analytic Geometry: Second-degree equations, Conics, Planes and straight lines in 3D, Conicoids, and their applications.
Combinatorics: Permutations, Combinations, Primes, Arithmetic functions, Congruence, Recurrence relations, Generating functions, and Complexity
The best way to prepare for the rigorous demands of NUMO is by practicing past problems. Familiarize yourself with the difficulty level and formatting of both the regional and national stages.
